Victory is not a word used when death occurs in the emergency department. Death is the enemy. However, at my mother-in-law's recent funeral I was given the opportunity to look at death once more in the light of Biblical truth. The word, victory, punctuated her memorial service.

Ninety-five years of a well-lived life had left her body frail and her mind diminished. Her death delivered both grief and gladness to us. Why? Because she knew the One who had conquered death. The Apostle Paul captured this idea of victory over death saying:

Death has been swallowed up in victory.  "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God!  He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 15:54-57 NIV)

Physical death is the door to our eternal home and Christ has secured that for those who place their trust in Him. Will you join me in praise for His victory over death?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
