I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Psalm 32:8–9 NIV

God desires for me a humble spirit and contrite heart. Yet, I so easily default to an attitude of obstinance. The children of Israel were obstinate too, often resisting God’s guidance. He called them “stiff-necked.” Am I any different?

David tells me not to be “stiff-necked” like the horse or the mule, but instead to yield to God and obey His loving counsel. The result? A right attitude, and a life filled with joy and peace.

Would you join me this week in surrendering our “stiff-necked” spirits to God’s will and way?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
