A colleague of mine often begins his emails with the phrase "The purpose of this email…". This simple direct approach to communication helps me focus as I read his message.

This morning sitting down with my cup of coffee to spend time with God, I asked myself, "What is the purpose of this time spent each morning?" My intention is to develop a more intimate relationship with Him. But some mornings, instead of focusing on His presence and listening to Him and His Word, I focus only on myself and pursue an intellectual rumination of the Scripture. My intimacy with Him is diminished. Developing a deeper relationship with God is not easy for a selfish, self-centered man.

Finding that quiet place with a humble heart and listening ear will position me to grow in my relationship with Him. God desires intimacy with me.

I love those who love me and those who seek me find me.(Proverbs 8:17 NIV)

Join me this week in making the purpose of our times with God focused on loving and seeking Him.

Sharing the journey with you,
