My mother taught me to write thank you notes, but I was never good at it. I saw it as a chore. Maybe this attitude revealed the true state of my heart – not so thankful. Its roots were found in my expectations and sense of entitlement. Ungratefulness focused on me and not on the gift or the giver.

The Bible suggests that my life of worship is linked to my gratitude for God,

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. (Hebrews 12:28 NIV)

So how can I grow a grateful heart?

Pay attention… notice all the good gifts God gives to me.
See with the eyes of God… interpret from God's perspective not mine what is a blessing rather    than a burden.
Remember… build places of remembrance of God's goodness.

Join me in cultivating a grateful heart this week.
