Hubris – excessive pride and a sense of self-importance – is a constant temptation for me. Yet if you knew me well, you would understand that my hubris constantly rubs shoulders with the gnawing question, “Am I good enough?” So what is wrong with me?

When I use myself (my skills, accomplishments, appearance or status) as a measure for my value, I always get a false answer – either I think too highly of myself or I think too lowly of myself. Neither my hubris nor my low self-esteem reflect the truth of my value to God.

When I examine my heart, God tells me, “Bob, I made you in my image and you are

…fearfully and wonderfully made…” (Psalm 139:14 NIV).

Because of Jesus, no longer do I need to struggle on my journey of faith with hubris or low self-esteem. I am His and He is mine. I am at the same time a sinner and His child – accepted by Him.

Will you join me in humbly embracing this wonderful position?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
