Recently, I loaned my reading glasses to a friend. She immediately laughed and asked, "How often do you clean your glasses?" Obviously not often enough! Using reading glasses to correct the deficits in my vision is not the total answer to my farsightedness. Keeping them clean helps too!

This picture of dirty eyeglasses mirrors my spiritual life. I desperately need the spiritual glasses God gave me the day I chose to follow Jesus. Eternal perspective became clearer when looking through His lens. Perceiving what Christ-like character means was clarified. I could see Him better.

But it seems that my spiritual glasses get smudged with the cares of this world, skewing my vision of God. Cleaning spiritual glasses with my selfish motives distorts everything. Yet God has provided many "clean cloths" with which to clean my lenses:

  •    Solitude with Him,
  •    Prayer to Him,
  •    Listening to and obeying His Word

The lenses become clear again. My vision is sharpened.

Only the spirit of God can clean and bring clarity to my spiritual spectacles. I think I had better go to Him now. Will you join me?

… I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the glorious inheritance in the saints. (Ephesians 1:18 NIV)

Sharing the journey with you,
