Physical activity is a daily part of my life.  I enjoy the discipline of “working out." It fits my personality that loves to complete a to-do list. However, when I apply this “to-do list mentality” to my spiritual life I often fall short. Reading through my Bible in a year does not necessarily produce growth, but yielding to the work of God within me does.

Since God’s desire for me is spiritual vitality, the disciplines that facilitate my soul’s health are often hard for me.  Disciplines such as:

  • Waiting – Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:14  ESV
  • My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27 ESV
  • Emptying myself of me – I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20  ESV

These internal disciplines are not easy.  Will you join me in God’s fitness program?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
