Holding on requires letting go. For instance, in order to pick up my grandson, I must first put down the book that is in my hand. Grasping the things that matter in life requires releasing my grip on the things that don’t.

This same concept applies to my journey of faith in Jesus – discerning what to let go of and what to grasp. Courage and humility are required. Fortunately Jesus provided for me the perfect example of letting go. He could only accomplish His mission by letting go of His glory and embracing His role as a servant.

Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  (Philippians 2:6 NIV)

Letting go of my selfish desires is critical in following Jesus. This is impossible for someone like me, but…

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness…  (2 Peter 1:3a NIV)

Since God has given us everything we need to let go, will you join me this week in letting go, so that we may cling to the only thing that will give us everything we need?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
