What determines the course of my life? Obviously, it includes such things as the family of my birth, the opportunities and difficulties of life, and my choices. However, the Bible says that something else is more important – the guarding of my heart.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 NLT
What in the world does it mean to guard my heart? God desires that my heart would beat with His heart in love and compassion.
What are the symptoms of a sickly spiritual heart? We could list just a few together: fear, selfish desires, grumbling words, sinful thoughts, lying, unforgiveness, and so much more.
It seems that guarding my heart is very important. It is time to take a good, long look at it. Will you join me this week in standing guard by first making an appointment with the Great Physician to examine our hearts?
