When I think of generosity, my mind quickly goes to money. However, Jesus reminds me that generosity is expressed in many wonderful ways.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25 NIV
How do I express to others the generosity Jesus has shown me? My heart must be willing to understand the types of poverty that others often experience. This may be an impoverishment of love, kindness, or patience. When I take this point of view, I can extend love, kindness, and patience in a truly generous way.
In my life I see many giving in generous ways:
• A friend of mine gave a kidney to his wife.
• A friend served our country in the Middle East.
• My wife daily expresses love and kindness to me.
When we give, we gain. Miserliness leads to emptiness, but generosity leads to fullness. This is a strange paradox. Join me this week in pursuing a lifestyle of abundant giving.
