Contemporary farmers with state-of-the-art tractors plow the fields with GPS and sensing devices. However, I live several miles from Amish farmers who plow the fields with horses. I have been told that they need to fix their eyes on a spot at the end of the field in order to plow a straight line; otherwise the plow line will be crooked.
Why does Jesus tell the men on the road that in order to follow Him, they could not look back? He knew that looking back was dangerous and led to a crooked path; the moment was “now” to focus on Him.
I have some crooked lines in my field. Jesus is telling me not to look back but instead look straight ahead at Him. The writer of Hebrews says that what I need for living life and running the race marked out for me is to...fix our [my] eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:2 NIV
As we plow the soil of our soul this week, will you join me in fixing our eyes on Him?
