What to do? More than a decade ago, life’s circumstances seemed beyond hope with multiple devastating long-term medical issues in our family. I was full of despair. As a physician, I felt so helpless because I could not fix these issues. I was tired and worn-out. Words of comfort felt shallow and at times hurtful. I wrestled with God asking “Where are you?”

Each night my wife and I would read John 14:1 together, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” We choose to draw near with confidence to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).

Now looking back over time I see that the hand of God was at work and I can say with David:

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:5 NLT

The challenges in your life and my life should never be minimized or trivialized. They are real and palpable. In midst of our discouragements which is only human, may we find encouragement today in the hope that only God can offer.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
