Often as I leave for work my wife will say to me, “Be a blessing”. Her words indicate her great expectations for me that day. I leave with the opportunity to bestow gifts of mercy, love and favor. However my inclination is to return in kind what I receive – kindness for kindness or an insult for an insult.

But God calls me to better than that.

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.          (I Peter 3:9 NIV)

The next time I am insulted will I rise to the occasion with a blessing?

God also called Abram to be a blessing. The Lord said to him,

I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2 NIV)

Abram and his descendents spent far too much time seeking to be blessed themselves rather seeking to be a blessing to others. To their great chagrin, problems always resulted.

Let’s hear the words of the Apostle Peter and my wife, Pamela, ringing in our ears as we go out this week. “Be a blessing!!”

Sharing the journey with you,
