"Unfortunately, the Information Age does little to encourage the development of wisdom."

"If we are not alert, the Information Age may stunt our growth and create a permanent puberty of the mind."

These quotes from the book Flickering Pixels: How Technology Shapes Your Faith, could easily describe my relationship to technology!   The frantic pace of the Information Age seems to work against the presence of peace and tranquility.

Although I enjoy the conveniences and information that technology provides, I see the insidious dangers.  If I allow, information and technology can work against the maturation of my faith. Technology does not naturally cultivate the quiet rest of mind and spirit necessary for my relationship with the Eternal God.

To keep his soul from being distracted, David did not concern himself with more than was necessary.

I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. (Psalm 131: 1b-2 NIV)

I will not soon be giving up my Blackberry, my Kindle, my laptop, or calling via SKYPE around the world. But my goal remains a stilled and quieted soul. Will you join me in seeking a quiet spirit in the midst of this Information Age?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
